Monthly Mintage Surpasses 1 Billion

For the first time since August 2023, the United States Mint has struck more than 1 billion coins in a single month. This occurred despite not producing 1-cent coins for circulation, an output that historically accounted for at least half the coins struck by the mint.

Driving the lofty emissions for April, which saw 1.16 billion business-strike coins produced by the U.S. Mint, was the 1776-2026 semiquincentennial coinage celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States. The biggest month-over-month production increases were for the nickels, dimes, and quarters, all of which saw triple or more the production over previous monthly mintages.
