Sharp-eyed collectors frequently turn to PCGS in certifying new varieties that they find. Here are three new varieties that PCGS recently recognized.

First is a very strong doubled die obverse on a Luxemburg 1922 5 Centimes. Struck in iron by the Stuttgart Mint, this issue only lasted three years: 1918, 1921, and 1922. It was replaced in 1924 by a copper-nickel issue. The year 1922 saw the smallest mintage, with only 400,000 struck. The new variety features a strong doubling and tripling on the date and “GRAND DUCHE DE LUXEMBOURG.” This example also had a die break on the reverse also known as a cud at about 10 o’clock.
